Rosamond School has a partnership with Williamstown Seagulls FIDA Football Club, which is a football club set up in 2011 to provide sporting opportunities for people with Intellectual Disabilities (both male and female) in the Inner Western suburbs of Melbourne. Williamstown Seagulls FIDA Football Club is a member of the Football Integration Development Association. (F.I.D.A. is a football competition for people who attend special schools or have an Intellectual Disability.)
The football club was been established with a grant from School Focussed Youth Services to establish links with the community, in conjunction with the support umbrella of Football Williamstown, and is assisted by Williamstown CYMS Football Club and Williamstown Superules Football Club. Williamstown Seagulls has 2 teams, a Senior team and a Reserves team, so even young or low-functioning players are able to participate safely at an appropriate level. Most of our players are aged between 14 and 35, and many are students or ex-students of Rosamond Special School.
In 2016 the senior team and development team won premierships (in First Division and the Development League). In 2014 the senior team won the FIDA First Division premiership.
The games are played on Sundays, usually fortnightly, venues around Melbourne, including The Fearon in Williamstown, which is our home ground. There are 10 rounds in the season, plus finals. Some transport can be provided to away games venues.
Registration is $120 per player per season. This includes basic insurance cover as well as club membership and the game day fees. Before a person can play, the medical form must be filled in and returned, and all fees paid.
The team trains on WEDNESDAY nights, from 4:30 - 6.00 PM at the Fearon Reserve in Osborne St Williamstown, Vic. (MELWAYS: 56 B10). Training is encouraged, but it is understood that some people have work commitments or transport difficulties. Team jumpers can be borrowed each week, although in the future, some players may like to buy their own. Shorts are "Royal Blue" and socks are "Royal Blue and Yellow" hoops. Fixture lists will be provided to all players. The Registration and Medical forms will be distributed at Training.
